Stena Line's vessels
High speed vessels, multi-purpose ferries, RoPax vessels and freight vessels.

High-speed ferries
Stena Line made shipping history in 1996 when it launched the world's first high-speed ferry. Stena Explorer was the first in a series of so-called HSS 1500 ferries (High Speed Sea Service) that the Stena Shipping Company had developed.

Stena Line's HSS ferry has a unique shape and several design solutions that are patented by the Stena Shipping Company. The high-speed ferries come in two sizes, the larger HSS 1500 and the smaller HSS 900. The first has the capacity for both freight and passengers while the latter only transports passengers, cars and coaches. Onboard both types of ferries are facilities such as restaurants, shops and play areas for children.

Multi-purpose ferries
Combination ferries carry passengers as well as freight, cars and coaches. There are both day and night ferries with a wide range of facilities such as restaurants, bars, amusement arcades, movies, shops and playrooms. Night ferries also have cabins and some even have nightclubs.

RoPax ferries
RoPax ferries are developed for passengers as well as freight but the emphasis is on freight. These vessels have large and easily loaded decks for lorries, trailers and cars. In addition to standard facilities such as restaurants, amusement arcades and movie theatres, there are also areas for lorry drivers with separate dining room, shower and cabins.

Freight vessels
Freight vessels have the capacity to also carry goods that are not permitted to be shipped on passenger ferries. The freight vessels generally have capacity for lorries and trailers and have a number of facilities for professional lorry drivers. Some areas, such as the kitchen and video room, are shared by crew and lorry drivers.
