Bookings procedure and policy
As with all routes an advance booking is recommended to secure space (preferably supported by fax to avoid confusion). Stena Line does not carry forward bookings to the following day unless specifically instructed to do so. In such instances, all requests are dependent on space availability.

For regular weekly flows of business, we would be delighted to investigate the possibility arrange allocation of pre-booked space, which would need confirmation no later than 1300 hours on the day of intended departure.

Special Handling & Dangerous Goods
All vehicles intending to transport dangerous goods, abnormal loads or other specialised cargoes (i.e. animals) should provide at least 24 hours notice to the Central Reservations fax number. Stena Line reserve to right to decline to carry any such cargo that has not been pre-advised.

Freight Only Dangerous Goods are normally accepted on day boats only (if number of drivers on the sailing is 51 or under). Port Indemnities are required for Class 1 and 7.
DG surcharge will be automatically raised to the customers account, which will also be raised for labels against customer account.

Enviromental licence restrictions in the Hoek van Holland place additional restrictions on the types of hazardous goods permitted on the quayside.

Plug-in facilities

Any vehicle requiring temperature control during the voyage - must be pre-advised with the required temperature (in Degrees Celsius) indicated on booking instructions. Plug-in facilities are available at the port and on-board ship.

Unaccompanied Procedures
Delivery - Trailers will be accepted without a booking - but will not be shipped until instructions are received from the company paying the seafreight.

Release - Trailers will not be released until instructions are received from the sea-freight payer as agreed with the Harwich International Port (i.e. by fax, e-mail, release note etc.)

Stena Line can provide automated advice of shipment to identify when vehicles ship against a specific customers account. There is also a web-based Booking & Track/Trace option available to all customers.

Damage Claims
The route maintains an excellent claims record. Damage recording is performed via a sophisticated digital CCTV system at Harwich and HvH.

We recommend that collecting drivers ensure anything considered "new" damage is reported / recorded at the terminal to assist potential claim enquries.
